LANGHORNE, Pa. (WPVI) — Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick is trying to reassure residents about proposed ICE detention centers in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

The Republican stated that the Department of Homeland Security and ICE do not plan to open a detention facility in his district, which covers Bucks County and parts of Montgomery County.<\/p>\n

Fitzpatrick said he reached out to DHS after hearing from concerned residents and would oppose the opening of any facility in his district.<\/p>\n

A facility is planned for neighboring Berks County<\/a> in Upper Bern Township.<\/p>\n

The Department of Homeland Security plans to convert a 518,000-square-foot facility there into an ICE detention center, after it was sold for $87.4 million.<\/p>\n
