SCRANTON, Pa. (WBNG) \u2014 UPDATE: The Binghamton Police Department has arrested a man for attempted murder, robbery, criminal possession of a firearm and more after an alleged domestic incident led to a multistate police pursuit.<\/p>\n
At 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 17, Binghamton Police officers were dispatched to a residence on Park Terrace Place for a report of a domestic dispute. <\/p>\n
Before police arrival, 911 received an additional call reporting shots fired in the area. <\/p>\n
When police arrived at the scene, they found people in residence, evidence of gunfire, and that the natural gas line to the residence had been severed. <\/p>\n
According to Binghamton Police Department, no one in the residence was physically injured. <\/p>\n
Police were then notified that the suspect, identified as 53-year-old Diriki Birden of Binghamton, had left the scene in a car that was determined to have been stolen.<\/p>\n
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but Birden failed to comply, leading them on a chase through the City of Binghamton and to Interstate 81 southbound. <\/p>\n
The pursuit led law enforcement to Scranton, where Birden was taken into custody by the Pennsylvania State Police. <\/p>\n
Birden was charged with the following:<\/p>\n
Two counts of attempted murder in the 2nd degreeRobbery Criminal use of a firearmCriminal possession of a weapon Criminal Possession of a firearmUnlawful fleeing from a police officer in a motor vehicle <\/p>\n
Birden remained in the custody of Pennsylvania State Police, where he faces additional charges. <\/p>\n
Further investigation determined that the incident was a case of targeted domestic violence. <\/p>\n
ORIGINAL STORY: One man was arrested on Tuesday following a chase that crossed state lines and involved numerous police agencies, according to information from Pennsylvania State Police. <\/p>\n
Around 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, Pennsylvania State Troopers were notified by the Broome County dispatch center of a chase happening in the county. <\/p>\n
Police in New York were called out to a reported domestic disturbance call involving gunfire that turned into a police pursuit. The suspect left the scene of the dispute in a black sedan. The individual later didn\u2019t stop for the police when they tried to pull his car over. <\/p>\n
The chase took police onto Interstate 81 south in New York before going into Pennsylvania, where Pennsylvania State Troopers joined the chase. <\/p>\n
PA State Police took over the chase once it went into Pennsylvania, where troopers said they traveled at high speeds to keep up with the suspect. <\/p>\n
During the chase, the suspect nearly caused numerous crashes and even hit a tractor-trailer. Troopers tried several times to stop the vehicle with spike strips, but failed. The chase continued south into Susquehanna County before crossing into Lackawanna County, where more troopers got involved. <\/p>\n
The suspect made it to Scranton on I-81 before troopers were finally able to stop the car with a PIT maneuver, troopers said. <\/p>\n
The male suspect was taken into custody, and the vehicle was taken to the trooper barracks in Dunmore for processing. <\/p>\n
The suspect had prior convictions in New York for criminal possession of a weapon. <\/p>\n
More charges are pending, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. A search warrant was requested for the vehicle, troopers said. <\/p>\n
