SOUTH STREET (WPVI) — Chateau Rouge is the passion project of owner Jeannette Jean- born in Cameroon and raised in France.<\/p>\n
Her head chef, Giuseppe Doseh, was born in Italy, moved to France as a baby and has roots in the West African country of Togo.<\/p>\n
The two met in Paris and shared the same vision of bringing their multitude of cultures to the table in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n
The ndol\u00e9 is, perhaps, the number one traditional Cameroon dish. It’s a stew of beef, shrimp and bitter leaves.<\/p>\n
The Yassa is a Senegalese dish -chicken, onion, mustard, olives, and lemon sauce cooked Sub-Saharan style.<\/p>\n
And it is their top seller, thanks to an instagram post from a Philadelphia Inquirer restaurant critic and a shout out from Jill Scott, who said she’d tried the dish in Paris, Dakar and New York, but the version at Chateau Rouge in Philadelphia was the best.<\/p>\n
The restaurant is BYOB and, if you bring your own bottle, they can make a cocktail with their house-made juices.<\/p>\n
For Black History Month, they’re offering their Discovery menu-3 courses, plus 2 sides for $10 off the regular price of $55.<\/p>\n
Just a year after opening, Chateau Rouge made the Inquirer’s list of 76 most vital restaurants in 2025.<\/p>\n
