A potential storm could bring snow and mixed precipitation to south-central Pennsylvania on Sunday night; however, meteorologists caution that forecasts are subject to significant change over the coming days.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a forecast released Wednesday, Kyle Elliott, director of the Millersville University Weather Information Center, said multiple scenarios, ranging from a major snowstorm to the system bypassing central Pennsylvania entirely, are possible.<\/p>\n

Most computer models show the storm bringing scattered rain and light snow in Maryland and southern Pennsylvania, Elliott said. For a major snowstorm to occur, multiple factors would have to come together.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe odds of that happening are much less than 50%, so snow-lovers should not get their hopes up just yet,\u201d Elliott wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Forecasters with the National Weather Service in State College currently put the odds for snow showers Sunday into Monday morning at around 60%. Temperatures are expected to drop into the mid-20s Sunday night and mid-30s on Monday, after a week of warmer-than-average temperatures.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Forecasters said the chances of significant, disruptive snowfall is low, but a possibility remains several days prior to the storm.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ahead of the potential snowstorm, rain is expected to continue to fall through Friday, turning heavy at times Thursday night into Friday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Elliott says the rain has been needed for the region.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Last week, the\u00a0 U.S. Drought Monitor showed moderate drought conditions across the southeastern half of Pennsylvania, including Lancaster County. Adams County and large parts of Maryland have been in severe drought since early this month.\u00a0<\/p>\n
