READING, Pa. – A tireless public servant and lifelong resident of the City of Reading has passed away.<\/p>\n
City officials confirmed that Stratton “Strat” Marmarou died this morning at age 92.<\/p>\n
He served as city’s 4th District councilor from 2006 to 2022.<\/p>\n
Prior to his time on council, Stratton had a career in law enforcement, first with the Reading Police Department and then as the first director of campus security at Albright College. He also served on the Reading School Board.<\/p>\n
A true Reading original, Stratton was the original director of Berks PAL and founder of Little League of Berks County in 1978. In a show of dedication to the city he served for so long, he famously donated his council salary to local non-profits and service organizations.<\/p>\n
After championing the project for more than a decade, Stratton was on hand in 2021 when\u00a0officials finally broke ground on the new Ninth and Marion fire station, a project he’d been the most vocal advocate for.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
