{"id":118686,"date":"2026-02-20T03:04:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T03:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/118686\/"},"modified":"2026-02-20T03:04:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T03:04:08","slug":"penndot-discuss-advancement-of-proposed-scranton-to-nyc-rail-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/118686\/","title":{"rendered":"PennDOT discuss advancement of proposed Scranton to NYC rail project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PennDOT held a virtual meeting Thursday afternoon to give the public details on the proposed 140-mile corridor.<\/p>\n<p>PENNSYLVANIA, USA \u2014 PennDOT officials shared the progress on the proposed passenger rail initiative that would travel from northeastern Pennsylvania to NYC.<\/p>\n<p>PennDOT announced the advancement of the proposed plan for the New York City Rail Corridor Project, which stretches from Scranton to New York Penn Station (NYP), during a public virtual meeting Thursday afternoon, following federal investments in the project.<\/p>\n<p>The project is one of five nationwide to reach the second step.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Shapiro Administration has been full steam ahead to advance this project that would be transformative for the northeastern region&#8217;s economy and mobility,&#8221; PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said. &#8220;The department continues aggressively improving roads and bridges while investing every possible state and federal dollar into passenger rail services across the Commonwealth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nRoute options presented                    <\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, the public was given details on the route options.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 140-mile proposed corridor would connect Scranton, PA, and New York, NY, with intermediate stops at Stroudsburg and Mt.
