The Royals did not score their first goal until the 5:12 mark of the first quarter, but were able to keep the Diplomats’ attack at bay and allowed just one goal during the second quarter as F&M took a 4-3 lead into the break.

Blaine Cosby scored less than two minutes into the third quarter, but Scranton tied the game for the first time all afternoon with a pair of tallies just 2:10 apart. That 5-5 tie set the stage for a back-and-forth fourth quarter that featured two more ties. Sophie Harris took a feed from Devyn Crone to give F&M the lead with 10:35 remaining in regulation time, only to be answered just 33 seconds later.

Beebe capped her hat trick when she gave the Diplomats a 7-6 led with 3:05 remaining off the pass from Carbon. Once again, Scranton would not go away quietly as the Royals tied the game just 67 seconds later. Tied at seven-all, the Diplomats won the ensuing draw but lost it via a turnover and went a player down with 1:43 left in regulation time. The Royals eventually scored just before the final buzzer in the 8-7 final which was the first time Scranton led all afternoon.

Julia Carbon won a game-high 10 draw controls in addition to her two-point day on the attack. Her efforts helped the team to a 13-4 advantage in draw controls. Sophia Geibel and Harris also caused two turnovers to tie with DiGiovanni for the team lead in that category.

Women’s lacrosse will now have two weeks to prepare for its next contest as the team is set to travel to Middletown, Conn. where a showdown with Wesleyan (Conn.) awaits.
