SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) \u2014 On Friday, the University of Scranton held an annual competition that saw students using their brains to answer questions about brains.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the 25th annual Brain Bee and the competition had high school students from the area go head-to-head answering questions about neuroscience and the brain. Hosted by the University of Scranton\u2019s neuroscience program, 11 students registered for the chance to move on, the school\u2019s director of the neuroscience program saying it\u2019s a fun way to get students to care about a subject few learn about in high school.<\/p>\n
“We\u2019re not making it a major promotion to come here. We\u2019re just talking, saying this is a really great career opportunity area, neuroscience,” explained University of Scranton associate professor of Biology and head of the neuroscience program Robert Waldeck. “And so that\u2019s what drives me and that\u2019s what drives the program. We try to do as much outreach as possible because it\u2019s an exciting thing. Neuroscience is really cool!\u201d<\/p>\n

The winner of today\u2019s competition will move on to nationals in California, where they\u2019ll compete against other regional winners from around the country. The winner of that, goes on to compete against winners from around the world.
