A man was taken into custody Friday evening after a firearm discharged and injured a woman in Mt. Penn, according to the Central Berks Regional Police Department.<\/p>\n
Police said officers responded around 7 p.m. on Feb. 20 to the 00 block of Pennwyn Terrace for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located Isaiah Troche with a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg.<\/p>\n
Patrol officers rendered aid at the scene, applying a tourniquet before the victim was transported to a local hospital. Police said her injuries were considered non-life-threatening.<\/p>\n
According to investigators, Troche was handling a firearm when it discharged. Police said he then fled the scene in an attempt to hide the weapon from responding officers.<\/p>\n
Officers later recovered the firearm, along with three illegal conversion devices commonly referred to as \u201cswitches.\u201d Police said the devices are designed to convert a semi-automatic handgun into a fully automatic weapon.<\/p>\n
Authorities said illegal firearms and conversion devices pose a significant risk to the community and that enforcement efforts will continue to focus on those who possess or use illegal weapons.<\/p>\n
Troche was taken into custody and charged with multiple firearm offenses, aggravated assault, and related charges. The investigation is being led by Detective Taimanglo, a task force officer assigned to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.<\/p>\n
