{"id":120432,"date":"2026-02-22T10:37:05","date_gmt":"2026-02-22T10:37:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/120432\/"},"modified":"2026-02-22T10:37:05","modified_gmt":"2026-02-22T10:37:05","slug":"state-to-study-grid-upgrades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/120432\/","title":{"rendered":"STATE TO STUDY GRID UPGRADES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Using a $2 million federal grant, Pennsylvania will undertake a study of \u201ccost effective opportunities\u201d to add to the state\u2019s electricity grid.\u00a0\u00a0 The aim of the study will be evaluating the state\u2019s energy efficiency, where new power can be brought online, and how the grid can be modernized.\u00a0 It will be known as the \u201cPATER\u201d Study, an acronym for Pennsylvania Accelerated Transmission and Energy Redevelopment.<\/p>\n<p>In the next year, the study will evaluate recently-retired power plant sites, prioritizing which ones could be brought back online.\u00a0 Importantly, it will also investigate and map existing high-voltage transmission infrastructure in the state, identifying \u201cwhere new investments would\u2026enhance the grid through upgrades or replacements.\u201d\u00a0 That could bode well for the Keystone and Conemaugh generating stations ins Shelocta and in West Wheatfield Townships.\u00a0 Those two plants are currently scheduled to be retired at the end of 2028 but a consent decree currently under review by the Department of Environmental Protection would extend the lives of those plants.<\/p>\n<p>The study will be conducted by the public-private partnership \u201cTeam Pennsylvania\u201d, working with the Public Utility Commission and other state agencies.\u00a0 Results will be published in two parts, at mid-year and by the end of December.<\/p>\n<p style=\"display: inline;\">.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Using a $2 million federal grant, Pennsylvania will undertake a study of \u201ccost effective opportunities\u201d to add to&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":120433,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[28,30,29],"class_list":{"0":"post-120432","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-pennsylvania","8":"tag-pennsylvania","9":"tag-pennsylvania-headlines","10":"tag-pennsylvania-news"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/120432","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=120432"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/120432\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/120433"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=120432"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=120432"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=120432"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
