There are dozens of species in Pennsylvania<\/a> that are currently endangered or threatened.<\/p>\n

Some of which might surprise you.<\/p>\n

According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission<\/a>, there are currently nearly 30 animal species that are either threatened or endangered in the state. <\/p>\n

Some of these species, like the \u201cgreat egret\u201d or the \u201cloggerhead shrike,\u201d might sound rare enough to laymen that it would make sense for them to make it onto the list.<\/p>\n

However, there are other, seemingly more common species \u2014 such as bats \u2014 that people might be shocked to learn are endangered. Especially when you consider bats make up about 25 percent of all mammal species<\/a> in the world. <\/p>\n

Here are all the species that the state Game Commission currently lists as endangered or threatened: <\/p>\n

American bittern (Endangered)\u00a0Black-crowned night-heron (Endangered)\u00a0Black tern (Endangered)\u00a0Blackpoll warbler (Endangered)\u00a0Common tern (Endangered)\u00a0Dickcissel (Endangered)\u00a0Great egret (Endangered)\u00a0Indiana bat (Endangered)\u00a0King rail (Endangered)\u00a0Least bittern (Endangered)\u00a0Least shrew (Endangered)\u00a0Little brown bat (Endangered)\u00a0Loggerhead shrike (Endangered)\u00a0Northern long-eared bat (Endangered)\u00a0Northern flying squirrel (Endangered)\u00a0American goshawk (Endangered)\u00a0Piping plover (Endangered)\u00a0Sedge wren (Endangered)\u00a0Short-eared owl (Endangered)\u00a0Tri-colored bat (Endangered)\u00a0Upland sandpiper (Endangered)\u00a0Yellow-bellied flycatcher (Endangered)\u00a0Yellow-crowned night-heron (Endangered)\u00a0Allegheny woodrat (Threatened)Eastern small-footed bat (Threatened)Long-eared owl (Threatened)Northern harrier (Threatened)Red knot (Threatened)West virigina water shrew (Threatened)<\/p>\n
