Pittsburgh Yards placed its final retail and restaurant shipping container, part of an outdoor business courtyard at the southwest Atlanta development in the Pittsburgh neighborhood. <\/p>\n
Located on University Avenue, just steps from the Beltline, the container courtyard features a cluster of small businesses housed in converted shipping containers. Eleven businesses have set up shop, thus far \u2014 nine consumer-facing and two tied to housing development \u2014 though not all are open yet. <\/p>\n
Businesses and restaurants already open at the container courtyard include Urban Grind Brew Box, Pink Pothos, The Creamy Spot ice cream, Coffyn Pyes, and Atlanta Bicycle Rentals. The two housing-related businesses \u2014 Fortas Homes and Atelier7, a Black-owned architecture firm \u2014 are also open and operating out of containers. Ideal Barbers, vegan hot dog stand Carrot Dog, Adam J\u2019s Grilled Cheese, and Black Box Cafe will open in the coming weeks at the Pittsburgh Yards container courtyard. <\/p>\n
The container courtyard sits at the southern edge of the Pittsburgh Yards property close to the Beltline\u2019s Southside Trail entrance and is expected to be fully operational by late spring.<\/p>\n
Built in stages<\/p>\n
The Container Courtyard took shape over roughly two and a half years. Fortas Homes, a developer focused on affordable infill housing, was the first to place a container on the site in August 2023. Pink Pothos, a houseplant retail and plant care shop, became the first consumer-facing business to open at the container courtyard in October 2024.<\/p>\n
Pittsburgh Yards has grown to more than 200 businesses and organizations across 15 acres. The property\u2019s anchor building, The Nia \u2014 \u201cnia\u201d means \u201cpurpose\u201d in Swahili, and is one of the seven Kwanzaa principles \u2014 houses coworking space, event rooms, and maker spaces, along with technical assistance programs for small businesses.<\/p>\n
As one of the oldest historically Black neighborhoods in Atlanta, Pittsburgh resides near several large redevelopment projects, including Summerhill and the former Turner Field (now home to Georgia State University football) and Fort McPherson.<\/p>\n
