Primanti Brothers ended its 10-year run in Boardman as the Pittsburgh-based restaurant chain shuttered its South Avenue eatery on Monday.<\/p>\n
Within the past year, the company has closed seven locations and rescinded plans to open a restaurant in the Harrisburg, Pa., area. Over the weekend, Primanti Brothers closed sites in Camp Hill, Pa., and Lancaster, Pa.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you, Boardman. This location is now closed \u2014 but we\u2019d love to see you at any of our many other Primanti Bros. restaurants,\u201d said a sign on the business\u2019 door.<\/p>\n
The Boardman location, which opened in September 2015, marked Primanti Brothers\u2019 initial foray into the Ohio market. It runs a restaurant in the Eastwood Mall complex in Niles.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not a decision we take lightly,\u201d Ryan Wilkinson, Primanti Brothers vice president, said in a news release. <\/p>\n
The company, which operates under the Authentic Restaurant Brands umbrella, said it is maneuvering operations to best address demand.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe iconic sandwiches we\u2019ve been serving for almost a century remain unchanged.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pennlive.com reported Primanti recently closed restaurants in Hanover, Pa., and Chambersburg, Pa. Last year, management ended operations in Morgantown, W.Va., and the Garfield neighborhood in Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n
The web-based reporting agency also noted Primanti Brothers decommitted to building last year in Harrisburg. <\/p>\n
The restaurant, known for its sandwiches heaped with coleslaw and french fries, traces its roots to Pittsburgh\u2019s Strip District and the Great Depression. Joe Primanti went from a sandwich cart to storefront operation.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne winter someone drove up with a load of potatoes. He brought them over to the restaurant to see if they were frozen,\u201d recalled Primanti\u2019s nephew John DiPriter, on the company\u2019s website.<\/p>\n
\u201cI fried the potatoes on our grill, and they looked pretty good. A few customers asked for them \u2014 so I tossed them on the sandwich.\u201d <\/p>\n
According to Primanti\u2019s website, the remaining restaurants serving customers are in Pennsylvania (29 locations) West Virginia (4), Florida (2), Maryland (1) and Ohio (1).<\/p>\n
Garnett Station Partners, a principal investment firm in New York City, owns Authentic Restaurant Brands. Last month, it reported having $4 billion in assets.<\/p>\n
Primanti lists Gerald Pulsinelli as its CEO.<\/p>\n
