Glenn \u2018GT\u2019 Thompson, who represents the 15th District,  said earlier this month at a <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/news\/pennsylvania\/pennsylvania-gop-democratic-party-shapiro-garrity-20260207.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/news\/pennsylvania\/pennsylvania-gop-democratic-party-shapiro-garrity-20260207.html\">gathering of Pennsylvania Republicans in Harrisburg. <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Steven Chizmar, a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Treasury Department, said that Garrity  was in Washington for the National Association of State Treasurers  through Tuesday and that her attendance at the speech   will come  as part of this previously scheduled trip. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cThis opportunity will allow her to gain valuable insights into national issues that could impact Pennsylvanians and the services provided by the Pennsylvania Treasury Department,\u201d Chizmar said. \u201cAttending the State of the Union is an honor rooted in more than two centuries of American tradition and Stacy Garrity is proud to be able to attend the president\u2019s address.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Garrity\u2019s trip to Washington comes  just days after Shapiro was<a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/nation\/josh-shapiro-white-house-governors-20260220.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/nation\/josh-shapiro-white-house-governors-20260220.html\"> among the Democratic governors to meet with Trump<\/a> at the White House for the National Governors Association\u2019s annual conference \u2014 though he skipped the black-tie dinner after Trump\u2019s attacks on colleagues. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Garrity is a longtime Trump supporter who has voiced support for <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/pennsylvania\/stacy-garrity-ice-josh-shapiro-20260130.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/pennsylvania\/stacy-garrity-ice-josh-shapiro-20260130.html\">Pennsylvanians to cooperate with ICE agents<\/a> and previously claimed that Trump won the 2020 election. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Trump <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/pennsylvania\/garrity-trump-endorsement-pennsylvania-governor-shapiro-20260127.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/pennsylvania\/garrity-trump-endorsement-pennsylvania-governor-shapiro-20260127.html\">endorsed Garrity at the end of January<\/a>, saying, \u201cStacy is a true America First patriot who has been with me from the beginning.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Garrity was reelected as treasurer during the 2024 red wave in Pennsylvania when all state row offices were won by Republicans, as <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/election\/how-trump-campaign-won-pennsylvania-20241106.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/election\/how-trump-campaign-won-pennsylvania-20241106.html\">Trump carried Pennsylvania with more votes than any statewide Republican candidate in history<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">But now a little over a year into his second term, Trump\u2019s approval rating is sinking. According to a new Washington Post-ABC-Ipsos poll, <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2026\/02\/22\/trumps-approval-rating-state-union-tariffs\/88810665007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2026\/02\/22\/trumps-approval-rating-state-union-tariffs\/88810665007\/\">60% of Americans said they disapprove of how Trump is handling the presidency<\/a>. This is a potential liability for Garrity and other Pennsylvania Republicans on the ballot this year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">The Pennsylvania Democratic Party seized on Garrity\u2019s planned appearance at the State of the Union. Party chair Eugene DePasquale said during a news briefing Monday that Garrity will  be \u201ccheerleading\u201d Trump\u2019s \u201cdamaging\u201d policies and specifically tied Garrity to rising healthcare costs. <\/p>\n<p>Democrats boycott or bring guests to send a message<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Healthcare costs will likely be  a key point of Democratic messaging against Trump on Tuesday night, following a national spike in insurance premiums when <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/health\/pennie-obamacare-health-insurance-dropped-tax-credits-20260209.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/health\/pennie-obamacare-health-insurance-dropped-tax-credits-20260209.html\">enhanced tax credits for the Affordable Care Act<\/a> expired at the start of the year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">U.S. Rep. Madeleine Dean, who represents the 4th District, which is primarily <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/montgomery-county\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Montgomery County<\/a>,  is  to bring Lisa Boone Bogacki, a physical therapist and affordable healthcare advocate from Berks County. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Bogacki\u2018s husband, Gary, died from a sudden cardiac event in 2009 and Bogacki\u2019s family came to rely on the Affordable Care Act and Social Security survivor benefits. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cPrior to the ACA, I paid over $20,000 annually for insurance coverage, and this was where the majority of the kids\u2019 survivor\u2019s benefits was spent,\u201d Bogacki said in a news release from Dean\u2019s office. \u201cThe ACA finally made insurance premiums affordable for us. This year, my premiums have drastically increased, following the new cuts made to the program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">U.S. Rep. Chris Deluzio, who represents the 17h District in Western Pennsylania, also focused on health care messaging with his announced guest, Jonathan Akanowicz, an independent pharmacist from Hampton Township. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Akanowicz has <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/deluzio.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/congressman-deluzio-announces-western-pa-independent-pharmacist-jonathan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/deluzio.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/congressman-deluzio-announces-western-pa-independent-pharmacist-jonathan\">been working to lower prescription drug costs<\/a> and save community pharmacies by campaigning against pharmacy benefit managers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Addressing another contentious issue, Trump\u2019s immigration agenda, U.S. Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester of Delaware  plans   to bring Maria Mesias-Tatnall, director of outreach and immigration assistance at the Delaware Department of Justice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Some <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/democratic-party\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Democrats<\/a> are choosing  to express their disapproval in other ways. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">U.S. Rep. Summer Lee, of the 12th District in Pittsburgh and surrounding area,  plans  to <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mobilize.us\/moveon\/event\/903037\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">attend the progressive-led \u201cPeople\u2019s State of the Union\u201d in Washington<\/a> instead of Trump\u2019s speech, her office said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">She is  to deliver  the <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/workingfamilies.org\/2026\/02\/rep-summer-lee-to-deliver-working-families-partys-response-to-trumps-state-of-the-union\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/working-families-party\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Working Families Party<\/a>\u2019s response to Trump, according to the progressive organization. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">U.S. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon of the 5th District mostly in <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/delaware-county\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Delaware County<\/a>,   is  also scheduled to attend the \u201cPeople\u2019s State of the Union\u201d event, organized by progressive groups MeidasTouch and MoveOn, her office confirmed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">After he boycotted Trump\u2019s joint address to Congress last year, U.S. Rep. Dwight Evans of the 3rd District in Philadelphia will  not    attend Trump\u2019s address Tuesday night. In his place, Evans \u2014 who is retiring \u2014 has designated Carolyn Hill, a Philadelphia grandmother who is <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/pennsylvania\/snap-benefits-changes-pennsylvania-trump-20260218.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/pennsylvania\/snap-benefits-changes-pennsylvania-trump-20260218.html\">impacted by Trump\u2019s cuts to SNAP<\/a>, an honorary guest.<\/p>\n<p> Republican lawmakers from the region  <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">U.S. Sen. <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/david-mccormick\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dave McCormick<\/a> of Pennsylvania  will be hosting hosted Jason Zugai, vice president of United Steelworkers Local 2227, as his guest after Japanese company Nippon Steel finalized a buyout of U.S. Steel in June. <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/pennsylvania-senator-dave-mccormick-first-six-months-20250622.html#loaded\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/pennsylvania-senator-dave-mccormick-first-six-months-20250622.html#loaded\">McCormick played a key role in persuading Trump<\/a> to back the deal after his initial public opposition. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">U.S. Rep. Ryan Mackenzie of the 7th District, which is north of Philadelphia  will  to bring  Sarah Arndt, the lead teacher at PathStone Carbon County Head Start, where she has worked for the past 13 years. Funding for her program <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wnep.com\/article\/news\/local\/carbon-county\/local-head-start-programs-concerned-about-funding-amid-state-budget-impasse-government-shutdown-pathstone-carbon-child-development-center\/523-cb583a5c-8cc7-482b-b56c-1cd1d11a6018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wnep.com\/article\/news\/local\/carbon-county\/local-head-start-programs-concerned-about-funding-amid-state-budget-impasse-government-shutdown-pathstone-carbon-child-development-center\/523-cb583a5c-8cc7-482b-b56c-1cd1d11a6018\">was in jeopardy last fall <\/a>amid the lengthy government shutdown and state budget impasse. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">And Sheryl Klein, a senior at Council Rock High School South in <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/bucks-county\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bucks County<\/a>, will  to be the guest of U.S. Rep.
