PHILADELPHIA, Pa. \u2013 The Gymnastics East Conference released its weekly awards Wednesday, with junior Jordan Barrow<\/a> and freshman Ruth Whaley<\/a> earning this week’s honors.<\/p>\n

For the first time this season, junior Barrow has been recognized as the conference’s top gymnast. Following a three-week run of sophomore Manama Fofana<\/a> getting the nod, Barrow claims the honor following a huge performance at the Ivy Classic. Barrow secured two first-place finishes at the event, placing first on the vault with a 9.825 and on the beam with a 9.900, a score which represents a career best. She also chipped in a 9.775 on the bars, good for sixth at the meet.<\/p>\n

On the other side of the awards, freshman Ruth Whaley<\/a> was named Co-Newcomer of the Week for the first time in her career. Whaley set the tone for Penn on balance beam at the Ivy Classic, leading off the rotation with a 9.825 to help the Quakers post a meet-best 49.125 on the event. Her score placed fourth overall and ranked second on the team. Whaley also contributed a 9.775 on bars, good for second among the Quakers. Her steady performances played a key role in securing Penn’s third-straight Ivy Classic title.<\/p>\n

The Quakers have been racking up for the GEC weekly honors this year, with Barrow and Whaley’s honors being Penn’s fifth and sixth of the year thus far.<\/p>\n

The Quakers have a week off this week before getting back in action March 6, when they take on Maryland, Towson, and host Temple.
