Neil Patel \u2014 who launched a Toastee Bagels location along Route 315 in Plains Twp. in January \u2014 intends to open the South Abington Twp. store by late May or early June. He also anticipates establishing a spot in the Dallas\/Shavertown area later this year or early next year.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Patel owns a bagel shop in Mountain Top that will eventually convert to the Toastee Bagels brand, he said.<\/p>\n
The Mountain Top resident previously worked in the bagel business and returned to the kitchen following a move to Northeast Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had my first store in 1996 in New Jersey, then I went corporate for 25 years and ran restaurants for other companies,\u201d Patel said. \u201cMy wife, Stephanie, is from the Catawissa\/Millville area, and she wanted to move back.\u201d<\/p>\n
South Abington Twp. Manager JoAnne Pane noted construction of the new shop remains ongoing along Northern Boulevard at the former Rainbow Market site.<\/p>\n

Rainbow Land Co. LLC purchased two parcels at 621 Northern Blvd. on Dec. 5, 2019, for $745,000.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey had to come before the zoning hearing board in November for a setback variance to the site layout,\u201d Pane said. \u201cWhen the property was originally purchased to when they started building, the zoning changed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pane believes the bagel shop will be a valuable addition to the township\u2019s retail landscape.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe always welcome new businesses and it seems like the morning crew of the coffee, tea, and bagels are up and coming more and more,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Patel stressed Toastee Bagels epitomizes the essence of a family-run business as his wife and two older daughters, Zoe and Mercedes, prove critical to the operation. He also hopes his 12-year-old son, Jaxson, will express interest in helping out down the road.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re trying to ingrain ourselves in each of the communities,\u201d Patel said.<\/p>\n
In addition to about a dozen varieties of freshly made bagels \u2014 ranging from plain to blueberry and jalape\u00f1o cheddar \u2014 the business also features many housemade spread flavors, including strawberry, scallion, vegetable, lox and cinnamon raisin.<\/p>\n
True to its Jersey-style moniker, Toastee Bagels also serves breakfast sandwiches, consisting of pork roll and other meats, that are cooked to order on a griddle.<\/p>\n
