(WHTM)\u2013 Governor Josh Shapiro and members of his administration are expected to hold a press conference on Thursday in Berks County to give an update on the proposed ICE detention centers in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n
The Trump Administration finalized the $87.4 million purchase of a warehouse in Berks County and a Schuylkill County warehouse earlier this month<\/a>, with plans for both locations to be converted into immigration detention centers.<\/p>\n A livestream will be available on abc27.com at 12:30 p.m.<\/p>\n The Schuylkill County facility would hold 7,500 detainees, and the Berks County location would hold 1,500, according to reports cited in a letter written by the state secretaries of environmental protection and health.<\/p>\n This comes as the federal government plans its expansion of similar detention centers across the United States.<\/p>\n Governor Shapiro has been outspoken in his opposition to the federal government\u2019s move. He previously warned the Department of Homeland Security that he would not issue required permits for the two centers. <\/a><\/p>\n Governor Shapiro will be joined by Pennsylvania Department of Health\u00a0Secretary Dr. Debra Bogen,\u00a0Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry Secretary Nancy A.
