Nearly 6 in 10 Pennsylvania voters think Josh Shapiro is doing a good job as governor, but only 4 in 10 think he\u2019d be a good president, according to a new poll.<\/p>\n
The Quinnipiac University poll released this week showed that 56% of registered voters approve of the job Shapiro is doing in the state\u2019s highest office, while 29% disapprove and 15% didn\u2019t offer an opinion.<\/p>\n
In Quinnipiac\u2019s Oct. 1 poll, 60% of voters approved of the job he was doing.<\/p>\n
As for the White House, 40% of voters think Shapiro would make a good president, 43% do not and 16% didn\u2019t have an opinion, the poll showed.<\/p>\n
Shapiro, a Democrat from Montgomery County in suburban Philadelphia, has been widely mentioned as a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president in 2028, though he hasn\u2019t formally announced plans to run.<\/p>\n
\u201cShapiro maintains solid numbers as governor. Do Pennsylvania voters think he\u2019s up to the job in the Oval Office? Not exactly a ringing endorsement,\u201d said Quinnipiac polling analyst Tim Malloy.<\/p>\n
Shapiro is running for reelection this year and is expected to face Treasurer Stacy Garrity, a Republican from Bradford County, in November. The Quinnipiac poll said Shapiro leads Garrity, 55% to 37%, about the same as in the October poll.<\/p>\n
Other key findings from the poll:<\/p>\n
About 46% of voters think U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, a Braddock Democrat, is doing a good job, while 40% disapprove and 14% didn\u2019t offer an opinion. Fetterman has shown a willingness to work with President Donald Trump and Republicans on some issues and been critical of his own party on occasion. The poll showed 62% of Democrats disapprove of the job he\u2019s doing, while 73% of Republicans approved. \u201cSen. Fetterman, bridging both parties on some issues, maintains the warm embrace of a healthy number of Republicans,\u201d Malloy said.About 37% of voters think U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick, R-Pittsburgh, is doing a good job, while 33% disapprove and 30% didn\u2019t offer an opinion.A majority of Pennsylvania voters \u2014 55% \u2014 disapprove of the job Trump is doing as president, while 40% approve.About 28% of voters think the nation\u2019s economy is getting better, 47% think it\u2019s getting worse and 23% don\u2019t see much change.About 71% of voters support banning cellphones in Pennsylvania\u2019s K-12 schools during the school day.Nearly two-thirds of voters \u2014 66% \u2014 support raising the minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $15 an hour.About 56% of voters support legalizing recreational marijuana for adult use.<\/p>\n
