The new plates now display the number \u201c0\u201d with a slash through it. While it may be easy for the human eye to distinguish between zero and eight, technologies are having difficulty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">License plate-reading equipment hasn\u2019t been effectively distinguishing between vehicles to avoid sending toll violation notices to the wrong people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The idea behind the changes to the number zero was to help distinguish it from the letter \u201cO,\u201d but sometimes solving one problem creates another.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a href=\"#sailthru-signup-widget\" data-ylk=\"slk:Close;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Close<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Thanks for signing up!<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Watch for us in your inbox.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Subscribe Now<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">PennDOT said it worked with the State Police and the PA Turnpike to develop the new plates and address the past problem of differentiating between zeros and \u201cO.\u201d PennDOT said it knows some license readers are now having trouble with eights and zeros.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">However, the problem should ease as readers read more plates and \u201clearn\u201d the difference, according to PennDOT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">One man didn\u2019t want to wait for that.
