IT\u2019S THE END OF AN ERA FOR THE PITTSBURGH POST GAZETTE. WE HAVE JUST CONFIRMED WITH THE PRESIDENT OF THE NEWSPAPER GUILD, THE PAPER\u2019S SIGNS ON THEIR NORTH SHORE OFFICE CAME DOWN THIS WEEK. THE BUILDING LEASE WILL SOON END AS THE PAPER IS SCHEDULED TO CEASE OPERATIONS LATER IN MAY. NOW, WE\u2019VE BEEN REPORTING ON THE FALLOUT FROM THE CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR MONTHS. THIS ALL COMES AFTER THE PAPER\u2019S UNION WON THEIR THREE YEAR STRIKE AGAINST THE POST-GAZETTE LAST YEAR. HOWEVER, THERE\u2019S STILL AN ONGOING LEGAL BATTLE FOR BACK PAY AND FOR BENEFITS. THE PAPER\u2019S OWNER, BLOCK COMMUNICATIONS, ALSO SHUTTERING ITS OTHER LOCAL OUTLET, THE CITY PAPER.
