This week, Eos Energy Enterprises\u202f(Eos), a leader in the design, sourcing, and manufacturing of zinc-based battery energy storage systems announced it is investing $352.9 million to relocate its headquarters to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania<\/a> and expand its existing manufacturing operation in Allegheny County. The company plans to create 735 jobs and retaining 265 current positions with this relocation and expansion.<\/p>\n

Eos currently leases two facilities in Turtle Creek, where an initial phase of the project began in 2024 with the installation of a new automated production line. As part of the current expansion, the company will lease an existing 432,000-square-foot facility in Marshall Township in northern Allegheny County where additional production lines are planned for deployment.<\/p>\n

Eos will also relocate its corporate headquarters from New Jersey to a 40,000-square-foot office space at Nova Place, located in Pittsburgh\u2019s North Shore neighborhood in the latter half of 2026. This relocation will support Eos\u2019s proprietary battery management system, software, controls, and analytics platform, DawnOS\u2122, as well as its corporate operations. In alignment with its expanding software and engineering focus, Eos will strengthen its partnership with local universities, notably Carnegie Mellon University, to cultivate a highly skilled workforce proficient in robotics, artificial intelligence, computer science, and engineering.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe demand for energy is going up \u2014 and my Administration is capitalizing on Pennsylvania\u2019s strengths as a national energy leader and net energy exporter to attract leading energy manufacturers like Eos Energy to the Commonwealth,\u201d said Governor Josh Shapiro. \u201cWe\u2019re doubling down on our efforts to aggressively compete for \u2014 and win \u2014 major projects like this one by cutting red tape, building out our skilled workforce, and investing in the next generation of energy technology. I\u2019m proud that Pennsylvania will be home to Eos\u2019 new global headquarters \u2014 and my Administration will continue to work to cut energy costs, create good-paying jobs, and position the Commonwealth to continue to be a national energy leader for decades to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

Founded in 2008, Eos develops and manufactures American-made aqueous zinc batteries (Znyth\u2122), currently targeting the utility, industrial and commercial sector for power storage.<\/p>\n

This expansion underscores what\u2019s possible when business, labor, and community work together to build a more resilient and competitive regional economy,\u201d continued Pashman.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Elk County Manufacturer Expands Operations<\/p>\n

Also this week in Pennsylvania, Nichols Portland, Inc. (NPI) announced its nearly $4.7 million investment to help expand its manufacturing operations in Elk County. The metal forming technology company plans to will create 42 new jobs and retain 285 existing positions. The company produces powder metal components using conventional powder metallurgy (PM), metal injection molding (MIM), and metal additive 3D printing technologies, as well as mechanical and smart pumps and specialty valves serving the automotive, off-highway, and other diversified industries.<\/p>\n

NPI has moved from its MIM \u2013 Ridgway location into a larger technology hub and business showcase in St. Marys Industrial Airport Park, agreeing to a 10-year lease. This facility also serves as the company\u2019s corporate headquarters, supporting six manufacturing locations \u2014 three of which are in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited to expand in Elk County, leveraging the expertise and solid workforce that has been the foundation of growth across the entire powder metal industry,\u201d said Thomas Houck, President and CEO of Nichols Portland, Inc. \u201cWith a focus on innovation and technology, we look forward to building NPI\u2019s future in Pennsylvania and beyond to support our global customer base. I would like to recognize our tremendous local partners and contractors who have completed the necessary infrastructure improvements to bring our vision and strategy to a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n

NPI received a funding proposal from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED)<\/a> that includes a $300,000 Pennsylvania First grant and a $76,000 WEDnetPA grant to train their workers.<\/p>\n

The City of St. Marys also received a $614,000 grant through the Pennsylvania Strategic Investments to Enhance Sites Program (PA SITES) to support this project. These funds will be used to increase gas pressure and expand electric supply at the St. Mary\u2019s Industrial Airport Park, where NPI has expanded their operations.<\/p>\n

The St. Marys region is often referred to as the \u201cpowdered metal capital of the world\u201d due to the region\u2019s significant role in the development of the technology and infrastructure base. In 2022, DCED awarded a $200,000 Manufacturing Training to Career grant to St. Marys Area School District to help prepare students for high-demand manufacturing careers.<\/p>\n

\u201cGovernor Shapiro understands that we must invest to support economic growth, and NPI\u2019s expansion is a great example of the real opportunity that comes from these investments,\u201d said DCED Secretary Rick Siger. \u201cOur investment in the City of St. Marys through Governor Shapiro\u2019s PA SITES program is supporting this project, directly creating 42 new jobs while also strengthening Elk County\u2019s thriving powdered metal manufacturing sector. We will continue making investments in rural Pennsylvania to ensure communities like Elk County have every opportunity for good, family-sustaining jobs and economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n

PortCity Logistics Arrives In Philadelphia<\/p>\n

The logistics industry on the state\u2019s eastern border is expanding with PortCity, a Georgia-based provider of integrated warehousing, drayage, and transportation solutions, opening a warehouse facility in Philadelphia<\/a>. The facility marks a major step in PortCity\u2019s strategic expansion across the Eastern U.S., positioning the company to better serve customers throughout the Northeast Corridor, with special focus on Pennsylvania and New Jersey.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Located near I-95 and major regional highway corridors, the new facility offers rapid access to ports, distribution centers, and metropolitan markets. With close proximity to the Port of Philadelphia, the site enhances PortCity\u2019s ability to provide efficient drayage, cross-docking, and last-mile logistics solutions to a rapidly growing customer base.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new facility represents the next chapter in PortCity\u2019s continued growth and commitment to our customers,\u201d said Eric Howell, Chief Executive Officer of PortCity. \u201cOur Philadelphia location not only expands our geographic reach but also allows us to offer the same technology-driven efficiency and personalized service that define our operations in Savannah and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n
