LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. – A new non-profit is helping connect people with service dogs.<\/p>\n
The Paws Foundation of the Lehigh Valley is now raising money for people to either obtain a fully trained service dog, get families in touch with a trainer, or cover emergency veterinary care for dogs actively in service.<\/p>\n
The non-profit just launched in January, and it all started with a woman whose granddaughter, Mackenzie, was diagnosed with autism and severe anxiety.<\/p>\n
Her dog, Benny, made life easier for her. But finding local funding for training was nearly impossible.<\/p>\n
Mackenzie’s grandmother, Heidi, started The Paws Foundation of the Lehigh Valley to help close the gap by providing financial support and ensure no one has to navigate the process alone.<\/p>\n
“I would love for it to change other people’s lives as much as it changed mine. And to help people like me and help them out of a dark place,” says Heidi.<\/p>\n
