Mayor Eddie Mor\u00e1n is pleased to announce the appointment of David Barr as the City of Reading\u2019s new Community Development Director. Reading City Council confirmed the appointment during a special meeting on Friday, June 27.<\/p>\n
\u201cDavid brings decades of leadership in planning, development, and major infrastructure projects at the federal level,\u201d said Mayor Mor\u00e1n. \u201cHe\u2019s worked around the world, but his heart is here in Reading. With his experience and vision, I\u2019m confident he\u2019ll help us continue building a stronger, more vibrant city. I want to thank City Council for their support in confirming his appointment.\u201d<\/p>\n
A Reading native, Barr spent most of his career with the U.S. Department of State, serving in key roles managing construction, energy, and facility planning. He received a presidential award for his work in energy conservation and led complex renovation and security projects across the globe, including in Iraq and Pakistan. He retired from the Foreign Service in 2022 and has since continued supporting diplomatic housing and construction projects.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an exciting chapter for Reading,\u201d added Mayor Mor\u00e1n. \u201cWe\u2019re on the rise, and having someone like David leading community development ensures we\u2019re building a city that works for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
Barr\u2019s appointment comes at a pivotal time for the city. With new momentum from the CRIZ program, continued downtown revitalization, and investments in neighborhoods citywide, Reading is experiencing real progress.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m honored to be serving my hometown in this role,\u201d said Barr. \u201cReading has so much potential, and I\u2019m looking forward to working with Mayor Mor\u00e1n, City Council, and the community to help shape a future we can all be proud of.\u201d<\/p>\n
