Presented to Pitt\u2019s Board of Trustees on Feb. 5, Pitt introduced an effort called \u201cPitt in 67\u201d to demonstrate its presence and community impact across Pennsylvania\u2019s 67 counties.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The February launch of the initiative<\/a> was prompted by Pitt\u2019s history of community engagement<\/a>, according to University spokesperson Jared Stonesifer. \u201cPitt in 67\u201d launched as part of the broader Plan for Pitt 2028<\/a>, an outline of Pitt\u2019s expansion initiatives that includes increasing student enrollment and prioritizing outreach.<\/p>\n Stonesifer said the focus of the initiative is on giving back to the communities around Pittsburgh and beyond.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2018Pitt in 67\u201d is a platform and storytelling project to help showcase Pitt\u2019s great work, specifically in the Commonwealth,\u201d Stonesifer said in an email. \u201cOur faculty, staff, students and alumni are working in all 67 counties of Pennsylvania.\u201d<\/p>\n Stonesifer said \u201cPitt in 67\u201d also fits into the broader strategic goals of the Plan for Pitt\u2019s pillars<\/a>, which include being welcoming and engaged, promoting accountability and trust, and building opportunities. Stonesifer said the new initiative aligns most with the \u201cwelcoming and engaged\u201d pillar.<\/p>\n \u201cFor generations, Pitt has been an engaged and trusted partner in advancing Western Pennsylvania\u2019s progress and communities near to far<\/a>,\u201d Stonesifer said. \u201cThis captures our goals as a place-based institution to have a powerful, positive effect on the world around us.\u201d<\/p>\n In 2023, Pitt won<\/a> the C. Peter Magrath Community Engagement Scholarship Award for the University\u2019s engagement work.<\/p>\n The Office of External Relations<\/a> introduced \u201cPitt in 67\u201d at the Feb. 5 Board of Trustees meeting.
