{"id":129235,"date":"2026-03-04T10:51:06","date_gmt":"2026-03-04T10:51:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/129235\/"},"modified":"2026-03-04T10:51:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T10:51:06","slug":"philadelphia-planned-parenthood-centers-at-risk-after-funding-cuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/129235\/","title":{"rendered":"Philadelphia Planned Parenthood centers at risk after funding cuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Philly and the Pa. suburbs to South Jersey and Delaware, what would you like WHYY News to cover? <a href=\"#Section1\">Let us know!<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>Health care advocates and providers in Philadelphia say low-cost options for routine reproductive and sexual health services are at risk following federal Medicaid cuts aimed at abortion providers.\n<\/p>\n<p>Leaders of local Planned Parenthood affiliates say their financial situations have become dire less than a year after Congress passed the \u201cOne Big Beautiful Bill Act,\u201d which blocks Medicaid payments for routine exams, cancer screenings and other care at facilities that also perform abortions.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Philadelphia without Planned Parenthood is no longer a hypothetical, it is a very real possibility,\u201d Signe Espinoza, vice president of public policy and advocacy at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/planned-parenthood-southeastern-pennsylvania\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania<\/a>, told City Council members at a public hearing Monday.\n  <\/p>\n<p>The local affiliate serves about 20,000 patients in Greater Philadelphia, many of whom have Medicaid, a health insurance program for people with low incomes.\n<\/p>\n<p>Since the federal cuts took effect, Espinoza said centers have been absorbing much of the costs for the services they provide. It\u2019s an unsustainable solution, she said, \u201cand the stakes are incredibly high.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Organization leaders and advocates are calling on the city to provide some money to fill the funding gap and preserve services.
