The person used the same radio channel that was accessed on Monday and Tuesday.”It’s scary, and we have to nip it in the bud,” said Pittsburgh City Council member Anthony Coghill.Coghill said his office has received calls making similar threats over the past year. He said police are investigating.”I know some of my staff members are very uneasy with the messages that we have been receiving in my office over the past year. We mean to get to the bottom of it, and we won’t put up with it,” Coghill said.Allegheny County police and the FCC are investigating the threats made over the public safety radio system.Someone was able to access the police scanner because the county is using an outdated analog radio system.Coghill said he worries about the overall effect on public safety.”Not only is it disturbing to everybody who hears these messages, but they come over our police frequencies, and that is really disturbing,” Coghill said. The county is spending $80 million upgrading the public safety radio system. When completed, outside actors will not be able to access the radio frequencies. But a county spokesperson said the completion date is still at least three years away.Coghill said he hopes police finish their investigation long before that.”I have the confidence that they are on it.
