The Berks County Department of Agriculture is hosting a workshop to help farmers ensure their farm is transitioned to the next generation.<\/p>\n
The workshop will be March 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the county ag building, 1238 County Welfare Road, Bern Township.<\/p>\n
The session is presented by PA Farm Link in partnership with Berks ag department, Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program and is supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture\u2019s Ag Business Development Center.<\/p>\n
The nonprofit PA Farm Link, will provide information on various aspects of creating a farm succession\/transition plan.<\/p>\n
Officials said farm families often discuss passing the farm business to the next generation but get stuck\u00a0 on how to proceed. The workshop will help work through some of the myths and stumbling blocks of moving forward with a farm succession and transition plan.<\/p>\n
Topics and speakers include:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Legal considerations for succession planning and long-term care situations, attorney Sarah Straub, Hazen Law Group.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Farm financials, Kurtis Eby, Bare Wealth Advisors.<\/p>\n
\u2022 The importance of a written plan, Michelle Kirk, PA Farm Link.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Local long-term care resources, Katie Catchmark, Berks County Agency of Aging.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture resources.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Farm family communications, Darlene Livingston, PA Farm Link and fourth-generation farmer.<\/p>\n
Presenters will answer participant\u2019s questions, make suggestions and provide next steps.<\/p>\n
Materials and lunch will be provided free to all registrants.<\/p>\n
