D.J. Granville,\u00a0the embattled Erie\u00a0County Sheriff’s chief of Narcotics and Intelligence, is set to retire at the end of this month, according to Sheriff John Garcia.<\/p>\n

Granville\u00a0announced plans to\u00a0submit\u00a0his retirement paperwork\u00a0Wednesday\u00a0morning, Garica said.<\/p>\n

Garcia commended Granville for decades of work, seizing kilos of drugs and hundreds of illegal weapons over his career.<\/p>\n

Granville, the sheriff’s\u00a0office\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0Buffalo Police\u00a0Department\u00a0have come under fire since an incident in April 2024 when he\u00a0crashed\u00a0a county-owned truck into several parked cars on the city\u2019s West Side<\/a>, causing\u00a0nearly $60,000\u00a0in damage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

BPD internal affairs documents released last week<\/a> show\u00a0Granville\u00a0contacted a family member working as a\u00a0Buffalo police lieutenant who then responded to the scene. Department leaders say that family\u00a0member was\u00a0later demoted and four other officers received disciplinary action.<\/p>\n

Granville pleaded guilty to reckless driving and leaving the scene of a crash and was later sentenced to\u00a050 hours\u00a0of community service and a\u00a0$550 fine. In January, he agreed to pay $75,000 in restitution<\/a> to Erie County.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"D.J.
