As the season changes, Erie Public Works is developing a plan to pave the city’s streets.<\/p>\n
However, in 2026, the city has a lot less funding compared to last year.<\/p>\n
“We have about $2 million for paving in the city,” said City of Erie Mayor Daria Devlin. \u00a0“It does not pave the entire city.”<\/p>\n
In 2025, the city had $3.4 million for paving projects.<\/p>\n
With more than $1 million less this year, the public works department is figuring out the best use of this year’s road improvement funds.<\/p>\n
“They use data to determine where the worst spots are, where are the places we haven’t paved in the longest time,” said Mayor Devlin. \u00a0“That’s how they will make our paving plan for this year.”<\/p>\n
Moving forward, Mayor Devlin says the city needs to come up with a better plan to improve the city’s streets.<\/p>\n
“We know we are not hitting every street,” said Mayor Devlin. \u00a0“We are not meeting every need, so when PFM (Public Financial Management Inc.) is here, this will be a conversation we have with them. How can we work to a budget that really reflects our needs? \u00a0We’re really piecemealing to make the budget as robust as we can and take those dollars as far as we can make them.”<\/p>\n
