READING, Pa. \u2014 Pennsylvania State Police are ramping up enforcement efforts across I-78, and many local drivers say it\u2019s long overdue.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey need to. 78, it\u2019s like a death trap,\u201d said Anna Hicks of Hamburg.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, October 22, State Police launched a one-day crackdown called Operation Triple Coverage, targeting aggressive driving, speeding, and drug offenses in Berks, Lebanon, Lehigh, and Northampton counties.<\/p>\n
During the operation, troopers issued:<\/p>\n
334 citations<\/p>\n
Over 100 warnings<\/p>\n
1 DUI arrest<\/p>\n
$120,000 in cash seized connected to illegal activity<\/p>\n
4 drug-related arrests<\/p>\n
5 arrests for outstanding warrants<\/p>\n
1 commercial truck placed out of service<\/p>\n
\u201cNothing surprises me,\u201d Hicks added.<\/p>\n
According to troopers, the enforcement focused on this corridor of I-78 due to alarming trends over the past year.<\/p>\n
