WTAE<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe caller\u2019s a bartender. She says there is a white male at the bar with a parakeet,\u201d a dispatcher reported on the police radio transmissions obtained by the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe patron was bragging to other people that were inside the bar that he feeds the parakeet marijuana and has it drink beer on a daily basis,\u201d Detective Sergeant Justin Scalzo told the outlet. <\/p>\n<p>Grace \u201cappeared extremely intoxicated\u201d when police showed up to the bar and found the pet bird in distress, according to court documents obtained by the outlet. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIts leg appeared to be broken,\u201d Scalzo said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtae.com\/article\/parakeet-fed-marijuana-and-beer-westmoreland-county\/70610932\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to WTAE. <\/a>\u201cIts foot was actually facing the wrong direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grave was initially arrested for public intoxication and now faces charges including aggravated cruelty to animals and transporting animals in a cruel manner, the outlet said. <\/p>\n<p>The pet bird was brought to PEARL Parrot Rescue in the Pittsburgh area, which rushed him to an emergency care facility.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.77777778;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38692300\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/pennsylvania-man-arrested-allegedly-feeding-122877651.jpg\" alt=\"Exterior of Callaghan's bar, with a sign showing &quot;WED KARAOKE,&quot; &quot;FRI FRAT HOUSE,&quot; and &quot;SAT DJ&quot;, and a news banner about a man charged with abusing a parakeet.\" class=\"wp-image-38692300\"  \/>The injured parakeet is still breathing hard, remains on antibiotics, and has to wear a splint on his right leg. WTAE<\/p>\n<p>Blue Skies spent four days in the hospital and was later taken in to be fostered by Teri Grendzinski, the president of PEARL. He also had some respiratory issues going on,\u201d Grendzinski told the outlet. \u201cHe was also very, very skinny.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe leg was broken badly enough there is a chance they\u2019re going to have to amputate the leg if it doesn\u2019t heal correctly,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n<p>If Blue Skies is eventually put up for adoption, he will require specialized care, the outlet said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we got that call, it was horrifying.
