PALMER TWP., Pa. – A sinkhole is causing road closures in Northampton County and is causing headaches for homeowners who live nearby.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Work on the void in Palmer Township started Thursday afternoon, PennDOT says there’s no timeline yet on when repairs will be completed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Both east and west travel lanes on the\u00a02700 block of\u00a0Newburg Road from Brentwood Avenue to Fischer Road are closed until further notice, according to a news release from the Palmer Township Police Department.<\/p>\n
Police say a sinkhole was forming on both travel lanes on the 2700 block of Newburg Road.<\/p>\n
Like many residents along this stretch of Newburg Road, Kristie Seaverns is dealing with a sinkhole.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“The cracks have been here for a little while,” said Seaverns.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The void is just a few feet away from Seavern’s driveway.<\/p>\n
“My husband’s traveling– he commutes to jersey and he has to park in the neighbor’s yard cause we’re not supposed to drive on the cement here,” says Seaverns.<\/p>\n
Police said traffic is currently being detoured away from the area. People are asked to avoid the area and allow for extra time for their travels.<\/p>\n
Police say people should be prepared for traffic delays.<\/p>\n
