A Scranton man wanted for back child support fled from officers as they attempted to arrest him Monday, leaving behind a five-year-old, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
At about 2 p.m., staff from the Domestic Relations Office informed county sheriffs that a wanted man just left the building with a young child.<\/p>\n
With officers arrived they found Mark Sheridan, 32, in the lobby of the Government Center, 123 Wyoming Ave., and\u00a0said they wanted to speak with him, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
Instead, Sheridan, of 805 South Webster Ave.,\u00a0 ran out the front door, leaving the five-year-old behind, officers said.<\/p>\n
Officers ordered him to stop, reminding him that he left a child behind, but Sheridan instead began running toward Biden Street. There, he got into his vehicle and fled. Officers followed Sheridan and spotted him parking in a lot at the intersection of Biden Street and Mifflin Avenue.<\/p>\n
When Sheridan got out of his car, officers approached him and ordered him to put his hands behind his back.<\/p>\n
Instead, Sheridan fled for a second time, running toward Lackawanna Avenue.<\/p>\n
When Scranton police and sheriffs approached Sheridan near the intersection of Lackawanna Avenue and Mifflin Avenue, he fled for a third time, jumping a fence and heading toward the river.<\/p>\n
Scranton police officer Joe Fletcher chased Sheridan and took him into custody under the bridge on Lackawanna Avenue.<\/p>\n
Officers contacted the Office of Youth and Family Services. Deputies contacted the five-year-old\u2019s mother and she came to retrieve him.<\/p>\n
Sheridan is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and fleeing police. He remains at the Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. on March 16 before District Judge Alyce Farrell.<\/p>\n
