CHESTER HEIGHTS, Pa. – The family of 57-year-old Steven Hulsey of Upper Darby is pleading for answers after he was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver late Friday night.<\/p>\n
“Nobody deserves to go out the way he did, especially under them circumstances,” his son-in-law, Joshua Lafferty, said.<\/p>\n
According to Pennsylvania State Police, Hulsey was walking near Red Roof Drive and Baltimore Pike around 11:45 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle. First responders found him unconscious in the northbound lanes. Rocky Run EMS workers attempted lifesaving measures before he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n
Lafferty said the family does not know why Hulsey was in the area, but they say he took the bus often and there is a bus stop near the scene.<\/p>\n
Lafferty said the family was devastated when they received the news.<\/p>\n
“Especially to find out the person that hit him just left the scene and just going to leave him laying on the ground like that. That’s pretty coldhearted,” he said.<\/p>\n
He described Hulsey as a devoted father and grandfather. “He was a very loving father (and) really good to his grandkids,” Lafferty said.<\/p>\n
State police say the suspect fled in a light-colored SUV. As investigators search for the vehicle, Lafferty has this message for the driver:<\/p>\n
“You gotta come forward because at the end of the day, you took somebody’s life and you took a father, you took a grandfather, and it’s not right,” he said.<\/p>\n
Hulsey’s family and police are asking anyone who witnessed the hit-and-run between 11:30 and 11:50 p.m. Friday to contact PSP at 484-840-1000.<\/p>\n
