WEST CALN TOWNSHIP, Pa. – A Pennsylvania State Police Corporal was shot and killed in the line of duty in Chester County.<\/p>\n
County and state officials say Cpl. Timothy O’Connor was shot during a traffic stop in West Caln Township.<\/p>\n
Police officials say O’Connor stopped the driver for erratic driving just after 8 p.m. at the intersection of Compass Road and Michael Road.<\/p>\n
According to 6ABC, Police say that within seconds of approaching the stopped vehicle, the driver opened fire, killing O’Connor, before turning the gun on himself.<\/p>\n
O’Connor is a 15-year veteran of the Pennsylvania State Police.<\/p>\n
He leaves behind a wife and a daughter, 6ABC says.<\/p>\n
Officials are not releasing the suspect’s name at this time, but say he is a 32-year-old man from Chester County.<\/p>\n
Gov. Josh Shapiro wrote about Cpl. O’Connor’s death on social media, saying, “Pennsylvania tragically lost one of our finest when State Police Corporal Tim O’Connor was killed in the line of duty. I was at Paoli Hospital this evening with Corporal O’Connor’s wife Casey and his parents Maureen and Tim. My heart breaks for Tim and Casey’s young daughter and their entire family…. May his memory be a blessing.”<\/p>\n
