{"id":135277,"date":"2026-03-11T08:57:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T08:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/135277\/"},"modified":"2026-03-11T08:57:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T08:57:07","slug":"pennsylvania-lawmaker-to-propose-temporarily-suspending-gas-taxes-amid-rising-fuel-prices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/135277\/","title":{"rendered":"Pennsylvania lawmaker to propose temporarily suspending gas taxes amid rising fuel prices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A lawmaker in Pennsylvania is planning to propose legislation that would temporarily suspend gas taxes in the state amid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/gas-prices-up-despite-crude-oil-decline-iran-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">rapidly rising fuel prices<\/a> as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/live-updates\/us-iran-war-israel-strikes-regime-targets\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ongoing conflict with Iran is in its second week.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/senatorboscola.com\/boscola-proposes-temporary-suspension-of-gasoline-and-diesel-taxes-to-provide-relief-for-drivers-and-businesses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pennsylvania Senator Lisa Boscola (D-Lehigh and Northampton counties) said Tuesday<\/a> that she plans to introduce legislation that would temporarily press pause on the state&#8217;s gasoline and diesel taxes to help provide relief to consumers and businesses amid rising fuel prices.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed suspension of the taxes would last for 60 days, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palegis.us\/senate\/co-sponsorship\/memo?memoID=48269\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to a co-sponsorship memo circulated by Sen. Boscola on Monday.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The state gasoline tax is just shy of 60 cents per gallon, while the diesel tax is around 75 cents per gallon. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Pennsylvania drivers are already starting to see prices at the pump climb as global oil markets react to instability in the Middle East,&#8221; Sen. Boscola said in a statement. &#8220;At a time when families and businesses are already facing rising costs, we should use every tool available to provide some short-term relief.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Boscola said the suspension of the taxes would provide immediate relief at the pump for commuters and working families across Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our legislation would temporarily suspend these taxes while authorizing bonding to replace any short-term loss to the Motor License Fund,&#8221; Sen. Boscola said. &#8220;This ensures we can provide relief at the pump without disrupting funding for State Police or critical road and bridge projects.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sen.
