{"id":135444,"date":"2026-03-11T13:11:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T13:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/135444\/"},"modified":"2026-03-11T13:11:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T13:11:10","slug":"philadelphia-opens-homeless-solution-center-at-hahnemann-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/135444\/","title":{"rendered":"Philadelphia opens homeless \u2018solution center\u2019 at Hahnemann building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Councilmember Mark Squilla, who represents the district where the center is located, said people are often afraid to go to <a href=\"https:\/\/billypenn.com\/2026\/03\/02\/new-homeless-shelter-philadelphia-cherelle-parker\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">shelters<\/a> because they aren\u2019t always nice places, but that the new, clean facility gives people hope.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen they come here, they\u2019re going to want to come here, right? \u2026 Shelter is one thing, but you want to go \u2026 eventually into housing, right? So the goal is to move people along and to build them so they become self-sustaining,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Officials spoke of people who have already come through the facility and found family members who will take them in. In one case, a woman was reconnected with her late husband\u2019s pension, which gave her an income and a new chance of a stable life instead of living on city streets.<\/p>\n<p>Cheryl Hill, of the city\u2019s Office of Homeless Services, said the Hope 220 facility offers plenty of services to bolster people who come in off the streets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to be a step above and transcend what you think about when you think about shelter. We wanted to feel like home while the individuals are living here.
