{"id":136364,"date":"2026-03-12T12:34:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-12T12:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/136364\/"},"modified":"2026-03-12T12:34:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-12T12:34:10","slug":"septa-bus-route-changes-begin-in-august","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/136364\/","title":{"rendered":"SEPTA bus route changes begin in August"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Philly and the Pa. suburbs to South Jersey and Delaware, what would you like WHYY News to cover? <a href=\"#Section1\">Let us know!<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>SEPTA is pushing forward with a plan to streamline Philadelphia\u2019s bus routes in exchange for more frequent service on remaining routes.\n<\/p>\n<p>The changes, previously titled the <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/septa-philadelphia-2025-year-in-review\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bus Revolution<\/a>, have been under scrutiny for years, but a major <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/philadelphia-septa-shapiro-funds-request\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">budget crisis<\/a> last summer prevented their planned implementation in 2025.\n<\/p>\n<p>The plan will roll out in phases, according to SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch, starting in August, just before students return to class and many commuters change their work schedules. Phase two will begin in February 2027, and the final portion of the plan is set to be implemented in June.\n  <\/p>\n<p>Busch said it\u2019s all about meeting demand where it is.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMainly, it\u2019s more efficient service, bolstering service on routes where we know we have strong ridership and strong demand. Some low-performing routes will be either eliminated or adjusted so that we can shift those resources,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re really looking forward to this.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Under the plan, 18 bus routes will be eliminated.
