Editor: As residents of Northeastern Pennsylvania, we all care deeply about the safety and well-being of our communities. Recently, I have grown increasingly concerned about reports and discussions surrounding crime in Scranton during Mayor Paige Cognetti\u2019s tenure.<\/p>\n
Public safety is one of the most fundamental responsibilities of local government. When crime trends appear to move in the wrong direction, it raises important questions about leadership, priorities, and strategy. Mayor Cognetti has at times suggested that crime in Scranton is not as severe as some critics claim. While context and accurate data certainly matter, many residents still want to hear a clearer acknowledgment of their concerns and, more importantly, an actual plan for addressing them.<\/p>\n
Experience in public office is often the best indicator of how someone might perform in a higher office. That is why it is fair for voters across Northeastern Pennsylvania to evaluate a leader\u2019s record closely. Since Mayor Cognetti is seeking to represent a whole Congressional District, people throughout the region deserve to understand how she would address public safety challenges not just in Scranton, but across NEPA.<\/p>\n
What specific policies would she implement to reduce rising crime? How would she support local law enforcement while also addressing the root causes of crime? And what lessons from Scranton\u2019s experience would guide her approach for the rest of the region?<\/p>\n
These are not partisan questions. They are practical ones that matter<\/p>\n
