Mike Tomlin is speaking publicly for the first time since stepping down as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this year.<\/p>\n
Mike Tomlin and his wife, Kiya, were honored at the annual gala for The Ireland Funds with the Patricia R. Rooney Community Impact Award.<\/p>\n
Tomlin told the crowd their family has been grateful to call Pittsburgh home while working for what he called the greatest organization in sports.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s often said \u2018you\u2019re not here for a long time, you\u2019re here for a good time\u2019 like you have to choose and I think our experience here in Pittsburgh and with the great Steeler organization exemplifies that, we were here for a long and really good time,\u201d said Tomlin.<\/p>\n
Tomlin also talked about how Pittsburgh became home for his children and he doesn\u2019t take it for granted that they were able to put roots down in the city.<\/p>\n
Steelers president Art Rooney II praised the couple for the impact they\u2019ve made in Pittsburgh since arriving nearly two decades ago.<\/p>\n
\u201c[They\u2019 didn\u2019t really look for recognition in terms of all the different things they did over the years in the community so it\u2019s nice to be able to recognize them for that,\u201d said Rooney.<\/p>\n
Tomlin says that he and Kiya are fortunate for their time in Pittsburgh and remain committed to giving back.<\/p>\n
Pittsburgh-born actor Michael Keaton was also honored during the 50th anniversary celebration of The Ireland Funds dinner.<\/p>\n
