Greenlight Networks plans to speed up construction of its fiber-optic internet network across Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, and nearby communities in Northeast Pennsylvania next year, the company announced<\/a>.<\/p>\n The expansion, backed by more than $24 million in investment, follows Greenlight\u2019s 2025 acquisition of local provider Loop Internet and is intended to bring multi-gigabit internet to more households and businesses in the region.<\/p>\n Company materials say nearly 42,500 households and businesses in Northeast Pennsylvania can already connect to Greenlight\u2019s network, and that \u201cseveral thousands more\u201d will be able to do so by the end of this year. Construction is being carried out in phases across Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Nanticoke, Drums, Hazleton, Kingston, and Mountain Top, according to Greenlight\u2019s release.<\/p>\n The Loop purchase, which now operates under the Greenlight Networks name, added more than 50 local employees and local operations based in Scranton, the company said.<\/p>\n Greenlight also highlighted local partnerships and municipal deals: Blakely Borough signed an agreement to receive high-speed fiber for eight community buildings, and the company provides service to the Toyota SportsPlex, the practice facility of the Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton Penguins.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are excited to broaden our partnership with the company, and welcome Greenlight to our team,\u201d Penguins VP Brian Coe said in the release.<\/p>\n \u201cReliable internet is no longer just a convenience\u201d<\/p>\n Local business leaders also called the investment a regional boost.<\/p>\n \u201cWith increased remote work and schooling, and the advances in AI, high-speed, reliable internet is no longer just a convenience, it\u2019s a necessity,\u201d Bob Durkin, president of the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, said.<\/p>\n Looking beyond Northeast Pennsylvania, Greenlight said it serves more than 320,000 households and businesses across New York<\/a>, Pennsylvania and Maryland and intends to grow further: the company announced a planned acquisition of FastBridge Fiber in 2025, expected to close mid-2026 pending regulatory approvals, which would add roughly 75,000 household passings in Southeast Pennsylvania and parts of Western New York.<\/p>\n Some AI tools assisted in the crafting of this report.<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/BBC-2026-Banner-1.png\")
