ALLENTOWN, Pa. – There’s nothing quite like getting schooled by a high school basketball player.

But Dieruff’s Jayla Rosario isn’t your average baller. She scored her 1000th point of her high school career.

“So I, like, jumped up with my teammates, and then I went and talked to my family. It was, it was a really good moment,” Rosario said.

A Moment in Dieruff history shared by only eight other lady Huskies, the first being Patti Sikorski in in 1975.

The last one to do it was Lindsay Myers in 2001.

“I knew she was a scorer,” said Myers.

Lindsay says she’s seen Jayla play and knew it was only a matter of time before she joined the 1000 club.

But one thing did surprise her…

“I didn’t think it would take 25 years,” Myers said.

Jayla’s love for the game started young, playing with her brother and going to basketball camps.

“She’s a lay-up machine,” said Dieruff Coach Kathy Piston.

Piston says Jayla’s success is due to two things: Her drive to improve her skills and to share the love of the game with her teammates.

“You know you think that you’re 1000 point scorer, that you shoot the ball a lot, but not only does she score well, but she makes her teammates better by giving them the ball also,” Piston said.

I wanted to talk to Jayla about her career milestone, one somehwhat older basketball player to another.

69 News reporter Jaccii Farris played a friendly game of “Horse” with Jayla.

But no matter how many times she gave me the ball, it wasn’t until S that I was able to score.

Playing again made 69 News reporter Jaccii Farris feel good, and it inspired her.

And that’s exactly the impact Jayla says she hopes her scoring 1000 points will have on others.

“Any little girl that was there watching, like, I’m proof that it’s possible. And like, if you put the work in and like, just keep working hard day by day, you can achieve whatever you want to do,” Rosario said.

Jayla’s name is now on the 1000 point banner hung in the Dieruff gym.

She’s headed off to hoop it up in college, keeping her fingers crossed that soon, other lady Huskies will join her on the wall.

“You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it honestly,” Rosario said.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – There’s nothing quite like getting schooled by a high school basketball player.
