According to a March 11 <a href=\"https:\/\/penntoday.upenn.edu\/news\/university-pennsylvania-announces-new-partnership-service-school-support-veteran-and-military\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">press release<\/a>, Service to School will provide application counseling, mentorship, and networking opportunities to veterans and service members hoping to attend Penn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPenn decided to partner with Service to School because we understand that veterans not only bring unique perspectives to our undergraduate population, but also that they face unique challenges in navigating the college application process,\u201d Vice Provost and Dean of Admissions Whitney Soule wrote in a statement to The Daily Pennsylvanian. \u201cWe want them to hear loud and clear that Penn could be an option for them!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Soule added that veterans who went straight from high school to military service might have \u201cdifferent questions and different perspectives\u201d on what they are looking for in higher education.<\/p>\n<p>According to Soule, Penn has been working with Service to School since the fall of 2025. Penn is now one of seven Ivy League universities to partner with Service to School through its VetLink program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cService to School is proud to partner with Penn to expand opportunity for veterans and service members pursuing higher education,\u201d Service to School Chief Executive Officer Sydney Matthes wrote in the press release. \u201cPenn offers the kind of rigorous academic environment where veterans\u2019 leadership, resilience, and global perspective can translate into meaningful impact both on campus and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The move comes after the Pentagon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedp.com\/article\/2026\/02\/penn-defense-department-tuition-aid-service-members\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">considered<\/a> eliminating tuition aid for active-duty service members planning to attend elite universities, including Penn.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite appearing on the shortlist, the University was not among the schools targeted in the Department of Defense\u2019s final memo. The official list of<a href=\"\" target=\"_self\"> eliminated programs<\/a>, published on Feb. 27, included all Ivy League institutions except Penn, Dartmouth College, and Cornell University.<\/p>\n<p>Penn\u2019s Student Registration and Financial Services webpage <a href=\"https:\/\/srfs.upenn.edu\/financial-aid\/veterans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">states<\/a> that the University is \u201ccommitted to supporting our veteran and military-affiliated students.\u201d According to the website, active duty members, veterans, and military-affiliated dependents are \u201celigible for education benefits offered through the Department of Veterans Affairs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senior reporter Arti Jain covers state and local politics and can be reached at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedp.com\/article\/2026\/03\/mailto:jain@thedp.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">jain@thedp.com<\/a>.
