The Erie County 9-1-1 center spent from Sunday afternoon to late Sunday night dispatching emergency calls non-stop, all due to the high wind gusts whipping through the region.<\/p>\n
The calls came in municipalities all across Erie County, including one at Valley and Lake Pleasant Roads, and another at Routes 8 and 89, where wires down sparked a grass fire.<\/p>\n
In Lawrence Park, a large tree came crashing down on a garage and a car, bringing a live wire down at 3207 Main Street.<\/p>\n
Where volunteer fire crews could clear away trees and branches they did. If larger trees were blocking area roadways they called in township crews with heavy equipment to handle things.<\/p>\n
Fire crews were securing locations where wires were down, waiting for Penelec repair crews to arrive, but dispatchers frequently notified them it may be a long wait, as the utility crews were slammed with back to back call for wires down.<\/p>\n
At last word as many as 10-thousand customers in Erie County were without electricity, with some service not expected to be restored until Monday.
