Wilderness Generation, the newest title from Pulitzer-winning playwright James Ijames<\/a> (Fat Ham<\/a>), will make its world premiere at Philadelphia Theatre Company beginning April 10, officially opening April 15. PTC Co-Artistic Director Taibi Magar will be at the helm of the new work, which will continue its run through May 3 at the Pennsylvania company’s Suzanne Roberts Theatre.<\/p>\n

Set over a weekend in the Tidewater South, the work follows a group of cousins who have gathered to decide the future of the family home, a debate that brings about issues around generational home\u00a0ownership, family history, intergenerational conflict, and more.<\/p>\n

The cast will include\u00a0Lindsay Smiling as Micah, Brenson Thomas as Smitty, Jessica Johnson as Nicole, Heather Alicia Simms<\/a> as Ramona, and Abdul Sesay as Donovan.<\/p>\n

\u201cJames has written something deeply funny and profoundly generous,\u201d says Magar in a statement. \u201cThe humor grows out of truth, not punchlines, and the emotional turns are earned. He invites us into a family\u2019s private world and trusts us to sit with both the discomfort and the love that lives there.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to continue premiering my work in Philadelphia. This city has audiences who lean in and are willing to wrestle with new and challenging plays,\u201d adds Ijames. \u201cWilderness Generation is, at its heart, a family drama, and it feels especially meaningful to present it here, surrounded by artists I\u2019ve grown alongside. Many of these collaborators feel like a chosen family, which makes telling this story even more personal.\u201d <\/p>\n

The production will feature scenic design by Matt Saunders, costume design by Kara Harmon<\/a>, lighting design by Thom Weaver<\/a>, projection design by Taj Rauch, sound design by Christopher Darbassie, and wig design by Katherine Casalino. Leslie Ann Boyden will stage manage.<\/p>\n
