PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — Arnita DeShields has a lot of heart, encouraging other women to get theirs checked.<\/p>\n
She was nominated by her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, as a Spring 2026 ‘Women of Impact’<\/a> nominee with the American Heart Association and their Go Red for Women movement.<\/p>\n The substitute teacher from Delaware County is just one of many women nationwide who are participating. In fact, there are five others in the Philadelphia chapter alone.<\/a><\/p>\n DeShields formed a team she calls, ‘Hearts in Motion.’ They are providing education to their community through virtual and in-person events while also fundraising.<\/p>\n They recently gathered at the Cobbs Creek Library, inviting the community to learn facts and tips about heart health.<\/p>\n The campaign ends on April 9, 2026.<\/p>\n According to the American Heart Association<\/a> and the CDC<\/a>, the leading cause of death for women in the United States is heart disease.<\/p>\n To learn more about the Hearts in Motion team, visit their webpage<\/a>.
