{"id":141472,"date":"2026-03-18T06:28:14","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T06:28:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/141472\/"},"modified":"2026-03-18T06:28:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T06:28:14","slug":"broadways-biggest-shows-hit-the-philly-stage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/141472\/","title":{"rendered":"Broadway\u2019s biggest shows hit the Philly stage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Brenda Hillegas<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"573\" data-end=\"701\">From wizarding duels to show-stopping ballads, Broadway\u2019s brightest productions are preparing to take the stage in <a href=\"https:\/\/metrophiladelphia.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"703\" data-end=\"959\">Ensemble Arts Philly, in partnership with The Shubert Organization, has unveiled its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ensembleartsphilly.org\/series-and-subscriptions\/broadway-series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">2026\u20132027 Broadway season<\/a>, a lineup of 14 productions that will bring award-winning musicals, contemporary hits and fan-favorite spectacles to theaters across Center City.<\/p>\n<p>The new season features shows across the Academy of Music, Miller Theater, and The Shubert Organization\u2019s Forrest Theatre, beginning with the 2025 Tony Award-winning Best Musical &#8216;Maybe Happy Ending&#8217; and wrapping up in July of 2027 with &#8216;Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.&#8217; <\/p>\n<p>Collectively, the Broadway season has earned a total of 39 Tony Awards, 39 Drama Desk Awards, 24 Olivier Awards, and five Grammy Awards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve curated this season of productions and are excited by how distinct the voice and perspective of each title feels within this lineup,\u201d said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming and Presentations and curator of the Broadway series, adding that, \u201cyou feel the full spectrum of what Broadway is right now.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This season was curated to be deeply cohesive, pairing large-scale Broadway blockbusters with newly acclaimed work, so that audiences can move between spectacular, outrageous, nostalgic, and deeply personal experiences- all within one series.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a look at what audiences can expect during the 2026\u20132027 Broadway season. <\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Mamma Mia!&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Sept. 29 to Oct. 4, 2026 (Academy of Music)<\/p>\n<p>Set on a Greek island paradise, a tale of love, friendship, and identity is told through the hits of ABBA. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter\u2019s quest to discover the father she\u2019s never known brings three men from her mother\u2019s past back to the island they visited decades ago. For over 25 years, people around the world have fallen in love with this ultimate feel-good show.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The Great Gatsby&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Oct. 20 to Nov. 1, 2026 (Academy of Music)<\/p>\n<p>Based on the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the Tony Award-winning musical is a journey of love, wealth, and tragedy that brings the Roaring Twenties to life on stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;BOOP! The Musical&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Nov. 17 to 29, 2026 (Academy of Music)<\/p>\n<p>For almost a century, the Betty Boop character has won hearts and inspired fans around the world. In &#8216;BOOP! The Musical&#8217;, Betty\u2019s dream of an ordinary day off from super-celebrity in her black-and-white world leads to a \u201cbright and bubbly\u201d (Time Out New York) adventure of color, music, and love in New York City. &#8216;BOOP!&#8217; is perfect for audiences of all ages.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Dec. 15 to 20, 2026 (The Shubert Organization\u2019s Forrest Theatre)<\/p>\n<p>How did a dead body, a fake love letter, and Ian Fleming turn the tide of World War II? This is a fast-paced, hilarious true story of the secret mission that won WWII.
