The driver of a pickup truck was killed in a head-on crash with a trash truck Tuesday on Route 724, Cumru Township police said.<\/p>\n
According to police:<\/p>\n
Officers responded to the crash on Route 724, also known as Philadelphia Avenue, near Valley Stream Road that involved a trash hauler and a pickup truck, with reports of people trapped.<\/p>\n
Emergency responders determined the pickup truck driver was dead. The driver and passenger in the trash truck were evaluated by\u00a0 by emergency medical services and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.<\/p>\n
The names of those involved were withheld, pending further investigation and notification of next of kin.<\/p>\n
Philadelphia Avenue was closed between Valley Stream Road and Route 10, also known as Morgantown Road, from about 3 to 6:30 p.m. so police and the Berks County District Attorney\u2019s Crash Reconstruction Team could investigate.<\/p>\n
Preliminary information from witnesses and video indicates the trash hauler was eastbound on Philadelphia Avenue and the pickup truck was westbound. The pickup truck crossed the center line, colliding head-on with the trash truck.<\/p>\n
