A York County woman was drunk and driving in the wrong direction during a three-vehicle crash last month<\/a> on Route 283 in East Hempfield Township that injured a Pennsylvania state trooper and an Allentown man, according to state police.<\/p>\n

Cpl. Ryan E. DeHaven, 28, and Joniel Toribio, 30, were taken to Lancaster General Hospital with suspected serious injuries following the Feb. 21 crash that killed 48-year-old Heather C. Bare, state police said late Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

The police report\u00a0said\u00a0Bare\u2019s\u00a0blood alcohol content was at least 0.16%.\u00a0The legal limit in Pennsylvania is .08%.\u00a0She\u00a0was not charged with DUI.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Toribio was a passenger in the unmarked police SUV\u00a0\u2014 a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe\u00a0\u2014 that DeHaven was driving.<\/p>\n

DeHaven, of Lancaster\u2019s Troop J in East Lampeter Township, enlisted in the state police in 2019 and was promoted to the rank of corporal in January.<\/p>\n

LGH and state police did not respond to a request for information about the men\u2019s conditions Wednesday morning. State police also did not say if the crash investigation remained active.<\/p>\n

The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. on Route 283 east near Landisville, state police said. Bare\u2019s 2026 Mercedes-Benz C-Class was traveling west in the eastbound lane and struck a Life Lion EMS ambulance before hitting the Tahoe head-on.<\/p>\n

DeHaven, Toribio, and Bare were trapped in their vehicles before being rescued and taken to LGH, where Bare died, according to state police. The EMS workers in the 2014 Ford E-350 ambulance were not injured and remained at the scene to render aid to DeHaven, Toribio, and Bare.<\/p>\n
