{"id":142190,"date":"2026-03-18T23:06:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T23:06:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/142190\/"},"modified":"2026-03-18T23:06:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T23:06:07","slug":"philly-paws-cutting-adoption-fees-for-match-madness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/142190\/","title":{"rendered":"Philly PAWS cutting adoption fees for \u2018Match Madness\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Philly and the Pa. suburbs to South Jersey and Delaware, what would you like WHYY News to cover? <a href=\"#Section1\">Let us know!<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>Instead of busting brackets for <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/ncaa-march-madness-philadelphia-teams-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">March Madness<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/phillypaws.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society<\/a> is looking for potential pets to make Cinderella runs into the arms of adoptees this month.\n<\/p>\n<p>Through April 6, the <a href=\"https:\/\/phillypaws.org\/events\/match-madness-adoption-promotion-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Match Madness Adoption Program<\/a> will allow adopters to name their fee for <a href=\"https:\/\/phillypaws.org\/adopt\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">participating cats and dogs<\/a>. Eligible pets are marked on the website with a \u201cMatch Madness\u201d logo.\n<\/p>\n<p>Participating cats and dogs include those with longer stays at the shelter or animals with special needs, such as manageable age-related conditions, daily medication routines, or preferences for being the only pet.<br \/>\n<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-735621\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/paws-bubba-2026-03-18-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"A close-up photo of Bubba the dog\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\"  \/>Bubba is one of the dogs featured by PAWS for their Match Madness adoption promotion. (PAWS)\n<\/p>\n<p>Some of the available pets include <a href=\"https:\/\/new.shelterluv.com\/embed\/animal\/PHLP-A-56918\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Johnny Cash<\/a>, a mixed-breed dog, and <a href=\"https:\/\/new.shelterluv.com\/embed\/animal\/PHLP-A-179735\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Applesauce<\/a>, a domestic short-haired \u201cindependent, senior cat.\u201d\n  <\/p>\n<p>For potential pet parents, animals will be available to meet in person on March 28 from noon to 2 p.m. at the <a href=\"https:\/\/phillypaws.org\/locations\/paws-petsmart-adoption-center\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PetSmart at Broad Street and Washington<\/a> Avenue.
